Monterey Bay Aquarium Trip!

Here are some pictures from our trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium! I’ll highlight one photo per row:

Row 1: In the middle is the only photo I got of the sunfish mentioned in my previous post, such an amazing fish!
Row 2: The first pic is of a pirate ship that you can pay to take a ride on! We didn’t have time for the ride but plan on doing it when we return!
Row 3: OK- this one I think needs comments on all three pics, so the first is amazing glass art that was on display when you first enter the aquarium, it was phenomenal! Pic 2 is a quote inside the aquarium by one of my favorite poets Pablo Neruda, if you interested check out his poem called, “Here I love you” it’s beautiful! and the last one is a gorgeous bird inside the aquarium, the picture does not do this bird justice, it was so soft and mesmerizing in real life….
Row 4: That first pic is J with a giant Otter outside the aquarium! He was a little bit afraid at first! A ten foot otter is pretty intimidating!
Row 5: J in Lion drinking fountain & with a giant ice cream from a shop on fisherman’s wharf!
Row 6: That last one is J and one of the south african penguins at the aquarium! It’s a really cute picture, it looks like they’re looking right at eachother!
I could not help feeling sad for those penguins… it was such a small place they had to stay in…and they just didn’t look very healthy…maybe it’s just me…I’m always torn, b/c it’s so nice to be able to see all kinds of animals that we’d likely never otherwise be able to see in person, but on the other hand, it seems so sad…some animals clearly love it all, but ones like the penguins just look sad and honestly like they were a little mad (crazy mad not angry mad…) I dont know, maybe they were just having a bad day….
All in all we had a super fun trip! We also stopped at this really neat playground with a labyrinth, a long high rope bridge and an old train for the kids to play on! It was great fun! We ended up getting a cherry shaved ice from the ’snack bar’ there that was soooo yummy! We only got one and shared it, but you may want to get your own if you go! Mmmmmmmm, it was so good!
